Katrina Reflections New Orleans, LA 2006. This picture was taken in the home of Betty and Stanley Stewart, in New Orleans 9th ward approximately 9 month after Hurricane Katrina. Their story is extraordinary. They did not evacuate, and because their house had two stories and happened to be just high enough that the water did not reach the second floor, they were able to shelter a number of their family members for several days after the storm. They got 14 feet of water in 30 minutes, which demonstrably decimated the entire first floor of their house. They were extremely lucky to survive, but at this point in their story they were unsure of what their next move would be to rebuild, or to relocate.
