Lazarus and Jack - South Africa, 2009. These two young men came to South Africa as unaccompanied minors and educational refugees in 2008. They risked their lives to cross an international border to pursue their education. School is free in South Africa, and it costs a great deal in Zimbabwe, and with the challenges of the economy there, most children have no hope of getting an education. One of the most extraordinary conundrums about Zimbabwe however, is the huge emphasis on the importance of education, but with the political unrest and economic instability, it became almost impossible to access it. As such, children fled Zimbabwe by the thousands to seek the possibility of education, and a better life here in South Africa.
