Princes Shoes - South Africa, 2009. Prince was one of thousands of unaccompanied minors crossing the border into South Africa from Zimbabwe every day after the highly disputed elections of 2008. He and the many other children like him fled Zimbabwe on their own in the hopes of continuing their education and finding a better life for themselves across the border. They crossed the border by any means necessary, and most with just the clothes on their backs. They were granted temporary asylum in South Africa, and while some stayed at the border and went to school, many like Prince continued on to other cities farther south. Many Zimbabweans immigrants suffered terrible treatment as xenophobia grew into an epidemic as more refugees flooded the country.
