Temple, Sri Lanka, 2005. I took this photograph while shooting the aftermath of the devastating tsunami that ravaged Sri Lanka in 2004. It is taken at a Buddhist Temple near Unawatuna, an area that was essentially swept away. Despite the tragic events that befell this beautiful island, for a brief moment it brought peace and cooperation between factions that had been warring for decades. This momentary respite paved the way for what has now become a lasting peace accord. This photograph is part of a collection in which I digitally manipulated the images to play with contrast and texture to create a surrealistic, painted effect.
