Waiting for Aslam - South Africa, 2009. These boys are all unaccompanied minors from Zimbabwe awaiting the process that will grant them asylum or ‘Aslam’ papers as they call them, so that they can safely stay in South Africa for at least 3 months. Some will attempt to continue their education here, as school is free in South Africa unlike Zimbabwe, and others will pursue work opportunities, which are also seen as far more plentiful than in their native country to the north.
