When Mom is Sick - Uganda, 2006. I had the opportunity to photograph some of the programs of CARE International in Uganda. This particular program was to help educate communities about caring for people who were HIV positive and living with AIDS. There was still a huge stigma about people with AIDS, and CARE was helping people to see that it was not necessary to cast out these members of the community, but better to band together to help support them, and care for their healthy children. They were providing bicycles so that people could more readily check in on their remote neighbors. These kids have a sick Mom who worries for their future, as once she passes on, they become extremely vulnerable to mistreatment by the community and relatives who can resent having to care for them.
